The difference
What Respite Care and Adult Day Services Really Mean
People look for these two things separately, and they overlap far more than the names suggest. Our Day Stay Program covers both, so you don't have to figure out which one you're supposed to be asking for.
Respite Care
Temporary care, usually a couple of weeks or a month, for a loved one who needs supervision while the family is away. It is a different thing from our Day Stay Program, and far less common: think a trip out of town rather than a regular arrangement.
Adult Day Services
Often called adult day care. Supervised daytime care for seniors who don't need to live here, but who do better with company, a hot meal and people around them during the day.

Questions About Day Stay
What is respite care?
Respite care is temporary care, usually a couple of weeks or a month, for a loved one who needs supervision while the family is away. It is a separate thing from our Day Stay Program, which is by the day. Respite is far less common, so if that is what you need, call us and we will talk it through.
What is adult day care?
Adult day care is supervised daytime care for seniors who don't need to live in a facility, but who benefit from company, a hot meal and support during the day. Our Day Stay Program covers both this and respite care.
How much does respite care or adult day care cost?
Day Stay is charged by the day rather than as a monthly rate. Get in touch and we'll send you what it costs along with the days we can take, so you can work out what a week actually looks like.
Does Medicare cover respite care or adult day care?
Medicare almost never does. It doesn't pay for adult day services, and it covers respite only when your loved one is already receiving hospice care, where the Medicare hospice benefit pays for short inpatient stays. Florida Medicaid is usually the better route to look at. The state's Long-Term Care program covers adult day health care and respite care, and respite can be used in an assisted living facility. We'll accept the Medicaid waiver once we open on March 1, 2027, though what a plan actually pays for still comes down to your loved one's eligibility. Can you care for someone with dementia or Alzheimer's?
Our team is trained in dementia, Alzheimer's and senior care, and plenty of families use adult day care for exactly this reason. Tell us about your loved one when you get in touch and we'll be straight with you about whether we're the right fit.
Do we have to book a set schedule?
No. Tell us the days you need and we'll work around them. Some families book the same morning every week, others call when something comes up.
How long can my loved one stay?
For the day, and you can book as many days as you need for as long as you need them. If things change, tell us and we'll change the arrangement with you.
Is Day Stay a trial for full-time care?
No. It's a complete service on its own. Plenty of families use Day Stay for years and never move in, which is exactly what it's there for.
